CVS pserver: "end of file from server"

running on ubuntu 8.04LTS, which doesn't probably matter.

the path is correct in inetd.conf.

so this is the msg when i try a checkout on remote client.

if i try to cvheck it out locally:

[root@harrys]:/home/lees/tmp: cvs co rcp
someone wants 2401
accept, ctrl 3
cvs checkout: CVS password file /home/lees/.cvspass does not exist - creating a new file
reaping asked for
6094 reaped, status 100
cvs [checkout aborted]: reading from server: Connection reset by peer

????

tks.
