Smile collecting syslogs older than 1 year


Hi,

How can i collect/view the logs which are older than 1 year in RHEL ??

the /var/log directory has 4 message files which has log entries for past 4months. I want to get the logs of 6 months back. possible ????

If older files were removed already by logrotate: no. What date is mentioned in the file names of the ones you see?

I can only see the logs starting from Jan-2012.

Then you've only got logs going back to Jan 2012. Unless you purposely enable something to archive log files, you WON'T archive log files. Kind of like saying "I've not ever backed up my system, but I need a file from six months ago"...not much anyone can do.
