The only thing I can think of is LVM or JBOD which can sometimes be implemented in disk controllers. With LVM, you would add both disks to a volume group that has a filesystem over top of the volume group, then, both disks would be part of the same filesystem. Depending on what distro of linux you're using, there is probably a gui for setting up lvm. Either way, google 'lvm setup' or something like that and you will find the info you need to set up LVM.
JBOD would have to be implemented in your disk controller. Consult its documentation.
