Backup problems on server

Hello,

I run a back up of the data on our server monthly. I attach a lacie external drive via USB cable to the server which runs SUSE linux. All I have to do is run this script backup script as root. Usually it goes smoothly. However, recently, I keep getting the following error:

rsync: writefd_unbuffered failed to write 69 bytes: phase "unknown":
Broken pipe
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(836)

Any ideas?

hmm, your question has been sitting here for a few days with no reply. Is it still unresolved and in need of an answer?

I would suggest that you post a bit more information. If the script is short enough, post it. Tell something more about what is being backed up and how much space it takes, how much space is on the external drive, have you rebooted the machine, etc. While it's good to have the error message, it is insufficient by itself.

I ended up figuring out that the usb external drive was full.
