I recently installed Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS for the express purpose of running an OpenVPN server for my company. I installed openvpn by issuing the command below:
Code:
apt-get install openvpn openvpn-auth-ldap
As far as I can tell the installation was smooth and I've been able to configure everything. I can connect clients to the OpenVPN server and authenticate them against my MS Active Directory server. So everything seems to be working. However, when I check the status of the OpenVPN server I see that auth-ldap isn't running.
So I am a bit confused as to how my clients are authenticating. I do have an auth-ldap.conf file in the root of my openvpn directory, so I have a feeling that's what's allowing my clients to be able to authenticate successfully. However, I'm not sure why the daemon won't start. Is it supposed to? If not, how do I get rid of it?
Here's the service status for OpenVPN:
Code:
root@ubuntu1:~# service openvpn status
* VPN 'auth-ldap' is not running
* VPN 'server' is running
