Question Auth via LDAP on eDirectory

Hi,

I have a problem with logging on via LDAP on eDirectory.
I want to be able to log in directly on my eDirectory server with NLD(Novell linux Desktop).
I've configured everything, and it works fine, if I have the user locally
on NLD. But if I remove the local user with the same name as in
eDirectory, it won't log on.
I've tested this with a netware 6.5 server, and SuSe Enterprise linux
server.
(Different trees)
And with both servers I have the same problem.
If the eDirectory user logs on, with a local account without a home
directory. The home directory is created.
I need to get this working, because we want to deploy a lot of linux
workstations (around 800), and we can't add all eDirectory users locally
on all 800 machines.

I don't think it's normal that I must have a local user with the same name as on eDirectory. I can't find anything about this in the novell documentation, or any other documentation. I could've forgotten something, but don't know what.

If anyone can help me, I would be very gratefull!

I'm not familiar with NLD but you can configure ldap authentication in nsswitch.conf - see:
http://www.metaconsultancy.com/white...ldap-linux.htm
http://www.saas.nsw.edu.au/solutions/ldap.html

Redhat systems allow you to set this up with the "authconfig" command - you may want to try running that but I can't guarentee it will work.
