Hello all,

I faced with a problem in two of my web server running httpd-2.2.10 and php-5.2.6 and mysql-5.1.30 in RHEL4 update2. Every package is compiled with specific options.

What happens is all of a sudden I noticed that the webpages are not coming and gives request timed out message and lots of apache process in process list which counted like 258.

Restarting the apache solved the problem. Any idea why this all of a sudden happened.

I looked the log files but there is nothing significant about it. I also looked the cacti graph for those but traffic,memory and cPU utilization was also normal.

this happens many times due to administrators enabling full log file for httpd
and the log file has grown to GBs. when everytime apache wants to write to the file
the file seek takes a lot of time and looks like a hang. Can you double check to see
the log files are all normal ?

when this happened I tailed the access log file and error log & both of them stopped logging then. I thought as apache wasn't capable of serving any request thats why but it didn't come in my mind to check the log file size.
