what iptables version do I need?

I have some questions about iptables:

I'm using kernel 2.4.20 and I was forced to download iptables 1.2.4 to setup a particular platform. I had to accept applying the dscp.patch when I used command "make patch-o-matic" but I received message : Failed to patch copy of /usr/src/linux-2.4.20. I suppose that I'm using an old version of iptables and I have to use a newer version, is that right?
I don't know what version I need-I have used also 1.2.6 and I received the same error.

After version 1.2.6, there aren't given together iptables and patch-o-matic. Will it cause me more trlubles that?
What should I do?

The only sure is that I can't upgrade the kernel (I need 2.4.20).

Thank you very much

nope.

download 2.4.20 kernel source, unpack it to /usr/src/linux-2.4.20 (or create link there).
