Unhappy Iptables in Debian Stable Version

I installe the Debian Stable Version 3.0 (kernel 2.2).
So, can I run the iptables in it.
If "yes", how can I load the modules for iptables.

iptables is for the 2.4.x kernels, you want ipchains with 2.2.x.
