I just bought my first server and was also under the impression that if it was Linux, I didn't need antiviral software. Do I? How is my system protected against being infected by my clients?
I just started a small web hosting company and will not go on line with it until I have it as smooth as silk. Anyone out there want to tell me what the best way to go about protecting my server from anything that might harm it?
I've read that it is a good idea, when running a web server, to put /var on a seperate partition. This way if somebody hits you with some sort of Denial Of Service attack that fills up your disk it won't crash the entire system.
Also remember the security credo:
Security is a process
Keep up2date with patches and new exploits so you can fill the holes before an attacker makes you regret it.
