Pam refuses regular user's access to Xsessions

I've googled + checked these forums for answers, but so far none have worked.

I try to run, as regular user (vexer), startx, in return I get an error

Code:
Cannot right to log file "/var/log/XFree86.*.log" // * = wildcard number
And then in my root console I get a message saying

Code:
Client * rejected from localhost.
I'm stumped. I'm using gentoo 1.4 with pam version 0.77. My regular user is in the groups wheel and users. I've tried everything, yet I can't figure it out.

Come on, I've tried everything and still haven't gotten any help, even in #gentoo.
