identd wont allow connections

Hey:
I'm having some problems with identd not allowing connections from even legit sources.
IE) When I try to access IRC - the client wont ident.
When I drop my firewall, it works fine.
I've tried the following:
Selecting "identd" in Guarddog utility to "Accept" - no dice
also tried manually entering the iptables string (as root):
Code:
iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 113 -j ACCEPT
still no dice. Anything else I should try?

Try
iptables -I INPUT -p tcp --dport 113 -j ACCEPT
e,g, replace -A with -I. It means it will override any previous firewall setup with this rule.
