Hundreds of SMS messages that reboot my (flip) phone?

Several times today, I find my SMS phone mail-box filled up with hundreds of messages, apparently from "Oalandar," which begin "fs:/mod/umbap..." and which will reboot the phone if clicked.

The phone never signals that an SMS message has been received.

I see a few other Internet references to this issue (which only started today), but no answers.

The messages, furthermore, cannot be deleted. "Select All" is no longer an option that is presented.

(This, mind you, is a dumb, "flip" phone. I don't think it's smart enough to be hacked.)

A web search for fs:/mod/umbap sure doesn't turn up anything useful, except that it's happened before.

Maybe searching for "[make/model of the phone] hack" might be more fruitful.

Yeah, I've already seen all those, in my Google-searches earlier this afternoon.

The date-stamps on these messages are all "00/00/00," and they never caused my phone to make any noise, so I honestly don't know if they are "real" or not. (In other words, is "the list of messages" actually stored on a phone-company server?) The fact that I cannot delete them implies that they might not be.

Some web sites suggest it is being hacked.

Get a new phone is many of the suggestions. (moto e republic $10 a month)

You might contact your phone company and tell them to block sms for a while. They may be able to monitor and block that spammer.

Yeah, Jefro, I read those things too ... the good news is, I don't think that this phone is smart enough to be "hacked." (I hope not, anyway: that's one reason why I bought it.)

I really don't know where these "messages" came from, but my suspicion (the "00/00/00" datestamp and the fact that I get an "Invalid SMS entry" message before it reboots), and the noticeable fact that I cannot delete them, implies that I'm probably going to have to call AT&T to see if they need to reset something at their server. Or, that they'll be able to tell me how to reset the phone.)

In the battle between ever-"smarter" phones that seem to me more-vulnerable, more power-hungry, and more tending to do things that I actually do not want "my phone" either to do or to be able(!) to do ... not to mention that my previous phone "butt-dialed" 9-1-1 three times while I was mowing the lawn (apparently a vexing problem now for 9-1-1 services!) ... caused me to choose "stupid." And, except for this minor inconvenience, I am perfectly happy with it. (After all, what's bad about a phone that cost $18?)

i'm sorry, but i don't buy the "not smart enough to be hacked".

in any case i think it's more likely to be a malfunction in the operating system, maybe due to faulty dram or something...

what kind of os does it run?

You do have an $18 and that is both good and bad. I still see flip type offered on cell phone web sites. I bought a cheapo one time just because the phone was $30 but they gave you $30 worth of minutes.

Might still call the phone provider to see if they can help.
