Hi, I am running slackware 10 on both laptop and PC. I have just installed gshield on the PC and all network services (PC - laptop) that I need seem to be working ok except printing. Printing works fine using cups on the PC and I have set the correct path to the printer from the laptop (cups also). Having read the documentation and searched the forums in relation to gshield I am still not sure how to set this up if in fact it is the problem. Previously network printing using cups worked with Mandrake and shorewall (automatic) and I have made no hardware changes.
Any suggestions.
Thanks,
Rowland.

I'm not familiar with gshield, but I'd first start by making sure that the laptop can print with iptables turned off and that the printing ports are open. If that still doens't help, add some logging rules to the gshield script (especially at points right before it drops or rejects traffic) and see what rules are incorrectly dropping the CUPS traffic. FWIW, I think these pre-packaged firewall scripts are really a pain to try and debug and often are only marginally better than reading the iptables docs and creating your own scripts.
Problem is fixed. Edit /etc/cups/cupsd.conf
"Allow From" lines need to be added. I missed this as it has never been a problem in the past.
I did this on both laptop and PC to reflect the correct IP addresses. Don't know if its necessary, but all working.
