can cable-modem be cracked?

Hi,

Just curious, yes or no?

at client side, long time ago, i did upgrade the software for cable-modem,
it came from the cable-modem company, it was installed successfully winxp environment.
(i remember that cable plugging is different. it failed on win98se environment).
i had just demanded it through email.
i know server side firmware upgraded regularly, but my cable-modem software upgraded only once.

now i just scare if the software is as some kind of spyware or it has security hole..
is there software can touch cable-modem in LINUX? if yes, i would have one for my cable-modem.

Thanks

Anything can be cracked, but if you got the firmware from a trusted source you're probably fine.
