So, I am trying to figure out all the details around using Linux as my main work laptop.
Among the features I need are an ability to sync up data between my phone and laptop.
I happen to be in the market for a new phone anyway, so what is the best/easiest smartphone for this? I need to stay on Cingular, but I'm not opposed to buying an unlocked phone.

caspianhiro,
Please post any questions about Linux that you may have in a dedicated thread on that topic. This thread is to discuss the ability to win free LQ Merchandise. Thanks.
This forum is absolutely about helping others. LQ being able to occasionally reward members for doing so certainly doesn't run counter to that goal.

Thanks, Jeremy! I appreciate the idea and these kinds of activities certainly promote traffic, which allows you to get revenue from various sources, so that is fine with me.
A few years ago now, I once won a contest for bringing the most new subscribers onto Linux Questions. I did it by advertising with my link in a forum that once was pretty active with Linux - Ziff Davis' Extreme Tech - UNIX & Linux section.
These days, most of my activity is at the USALUG - Linux User's Group - but Linux Questions and Distro Watch are always on the list of my regular "stops".
as long as the people are really posting legit things...the OH..enter me to win post is probably not the best use of the forum but hey what do I know..I'm a noobie
I'm a noob too, but I'll put my name in the hat to win.

A reminder from my initial post:

The only rule is that the post must be somewhat substantive as judged by me. While I'll be extremely lenient on the definition of that, posts like "me too" or "just posting so I am eligible to win" will be excluded.
The goal of this contest is both to have some fun and reward people for helping others or asking genuine questions. After a little thought, any post in this thread (due to its nature) will not be eligible.
I would just like to say that LQ has been a true ocean of knowlege to me. I started using Linux, as a desktop OS 9 months ago. The other 'main' OS has made computers...well, not so computer like to me. Wow, I have come a long way. It has not been too painful of a transition for me because I come from the days of DOS and BBS (look it up, you younger folks). One of my first jobs involved using UNIX too. A lot of folks have not had any 'old school' advantage either and I realize that. I guess we can thank the other 'OS' for getting the former non-nerds on board though. Anyhow, I would like to say that if it were'nt for LQ forums my learning curve would not have been as fast. I am posting this to let you know that I am making a new resolution. I resolve to make an effort from now on, at least once a week, to log on to LQ and at least try to answer someone's question in the 'zero reply' threads. I usually don't give many answers, maybe 5 times total in 9 months, in any forum...for shame. I don't ask questions either...and maybe that would be a good way to help others too, even if I bring my own answer back sometimes. I have found my answers just by searching, somebody has usually asked before and tons of times my search has led me here. I'll even open a book (they still work), or find another work-around down the road. I always learn something unexpected along the way though. I'd also like to add that even if you found the answer somewhere else, bringing the answer back to LQ would be a great idea. Thank you very much to everyone who had the '.gz' to ask or reply in any knowlege forum. Knowlege is power...
