But I'm not gonna spend hours compiling sources to be unimpressed.
Well, the least I can say is that it compiles clean and without any problems under a Slackware 12.0 - all secondary libs and tools like "Soprano" and "Blitz" included.

It still won't make me change to KDE - simply, because the handful of applications I usally use and like are all GTK-based - I just don't need a Qt-based desktop around my GTK-based apps.

I'd like to have an eye on the progress of Krita which is the only application kde-wise I'm really interested in.

It is called KDE 4.0 and not 3.999.x because they planned to have a 4.0 version by now. They do not potspone the 4.0 release because they fear for turning their development into the same situation as Enlightment 17 is now in.

I see most people here don't like all the KDE4 stuff or even KDE. That's so nice about Linux because you have the choice to choose whatever DE/WM you want. Imagine you had to run Vista and you didn't like the interface

I remember when I started with Slackware 9.1 and KDE 3.2. I thought it was the greatest thing! Then KDE 3.3 and 3.4 began to feel bloated and slow so I looked for something smaller and faster. I find myself using Fluxbox a lot now. I switch between the two but lately I find myself using Fluxbox more and more. If KDE 4.0 doesn't impress me it may become a permanent switch and the only reason I keep KDE installed will be because the apps work in Fluxbox as long as the necessary libs exist.

Hee hee. They'll be wishing they bought Home Premium instead and saved $100. Or is it Home Unleaded? Or Homely Prepaid? I dunno. Who can keep track of all those names? They're all just XP with a new SP that aint worth PP anyway.

Cool

Here's a really interesting keynote speech that shows and explains the new features and frameworks of KDE 4.0.
