Yast program installation -which and why?

Understanding Yast2 programs. Yast installation generally puts both 'program' and 'program-32' into the set-up. Is this redundancy or is the later a patch for the fundamental program? Should both be retained? My personal system is 64 bit. Should I be seeking 'program-64's and substituting them or adding them to the intalled elements? Thanks for enlightenment!

A 64-bit system is typically able to run 32-bit apps. I would not worry about a 64-bit version unless you know of a performance advantage.

sometimes, package managers will list a bunch of files with the same name--some are just libraries, modules, etc. I would simply pick one that seems logical and install it. A good package manager will do something rational no matter what you select.
