Thumbs up xserver has failed

hi all,

The xserver of my system has failed. When i am opening a shell,i am getting :
bash-2.05b# this prompt.But i need the prompt:
root@localhost# some thing like this.
I have tried to restart my xserver by using "startx" command, the message is mentioned below:

bash-2.05b# startx

Fatal server error:
Server is already active for display 0
If this server is no longer running, remove /tmp/.X0-lock
and start again.

When reporting a problem related to a server crash, please send
the full server output, not just the last messages.
Please report problems to xfree86@xfree86.org.

What should i do to get that prompt?

Regards,
Ravi Chobey

looks like you have a root prompt so try entering

init 3 ; init 4

that should shutdown the curent X server and then restart it
