Xandros 2.0 free edition may be the best distro for newbies
It seems that Xandros 2.0 is the most like Windows of any Linux available. This probably turns the stomachs of many hard core users, but the fact remains that the key to desktop superiority is ease-of-use and total cost of ownership. If any version of Linux can provide businesses with a desktop that is as easy to use as Windows, can run Windows apps, and is a superior product in security and reliability, that Linux will have a real chance of taking market share from Windows. This really isn't a political issues or a flame war.
Its more of an economic issue. Schools already use Linux for this reason alone. Its cheaper.
Another way to win people --> willingly <-- to Linux is ease of use or an easy transition from the more confortable Windows. For my money, I think that a brand new Linux user would be most comfortable with Xandros 2.0 free for simple ease of use. The desktop looks and acts so much like Windows, the use is intuative to a Windows junkie. Xandros is a legitament contender. Perhaps after winning the new users to Xandros, they could be convinced to try a more flexable distro that offers more user control than Xandros does.
Oh well. My opinion is worth exactly as much as you paid for it, but I am really impresses with this Linux.
