Xandros Open Circulation Edition

Hi

There seems to be a free version of Xandros available. It haven't been there for long, I just read about it on a finnish computer webpage today. Anyone tested this? I'm downloading it already

edit: Here's the link:

There are a lot of limitations with it. (you can't burn CDs faster then 4x for example)
And it would take a lot of tweaking before you can eliminate the limitations.

I feel that it is just a demo to get people to buy the deluxe verstion.

Just tested...

The cd burning thing seems to be the biggest limitation. Installation is VERY easy and quick and everything works quite nicely. There's just couple of things that I didn't like about it:

-Windows-look-a-like. The "view as webpage"-thing looks just the same as in Windoze. Yuk. Well, I think that's the point, to get people out of Windows and buy their OS.

-"Non-standard". The Xandros-KDE was nice and all, but installing software from source is... nearly impossible. It tried to install very simple software, like KAudioCreator. Or maybe I just didn't try hard enough.

Well, I still got my mandy...

you could turn the cd burning limitation off by :

"all I had to do was turn the view to expert mode, and then I did a search for Xandros and when I looked thru the packages I noticed 2 with almost the exact same name. One of the two packages had -OC on the end of it and the other didn't. The one with the OC was installed and the other one wasn't. I clicked the install link for the version of the file that wasn't installed and to my suprise it worked and I now I can burn at full speed with my Cd burner."
