Welcome to LQ!

What chipset does your wmp54g v4.1 use?

It might be a bit of a pain, but if you try a KNOPPIX LiveCD
you should be able to run "/sbin/lspci" in a terminal from it
and see what chipset is being used.

Prelimary investigation says it uses the RaLink RT61 chipset.
If so, that is in the 2.6.24.4 kernel that Slackware -current
uses, and the firmware was added on March 11.

You can use it with Slackware-12.0. However, you might need to
compile a new kernel, and install the firmware. If you wait for
Slackware-12.1, it will more than likely work when you install.

Slackware has been at 12.1-RC1 since April 3, so the release of 12.1
could be as soon as this coming week.

There have been many changes from Slackware-12.0 until now, so I suggest
you wait until the new release -- unless you're prepared to run Slack-current,
the development release. You can install it and get support for RT61 now.

When Slackware-12.1 is out, you should have all the support necessary for
that chipset (if it is rt61) when you install.

If you do not want to wait for 12.1, let us know. The kernels in Slack-12.0
do not have support for the Ralink RT61 chipset. You would have to recompile
a new kernel, using the 2.6.24.4 sources. And then you would also have to
get and install the firmware.

You can see here:
http://linux-wless.passys.nl/query_p...ndname=Linksys

It is supported by the following drivers:
http://web.ralinktech.com/ralink/Hom...ort/Linux.html
http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com/wiki/...itle=Main_Page

You do NOT need to wait for SW-current, simply download and install the drivers yourself on Slackware 12.0.
