I'm trying to get System Shock 2 running on my EEEPC (running the default Xandros), but I'm having a few issues. So here's what's happening:
1. The game installs fine (I'm installing it to a 2G SD card)
2. To get the game running, you have to patch it to version 2.3, then apply a no-cd crack (WINE doesn't like the CD protection apparently).
3. So I try patching the game to version 2.3, but the patcher fails saying that it failed to update time/date stamps.
4. So I download another no-cd crack (for version 1.5), but when I unzip it on the SD card, it keeps saying "chmod (file attributes) error: Operation not premitted (warning) cannot set times"
5. I try running the new no-cd patch, but it won't work with wine.
6. I noticed that if I unzip the new no-cd patch as root, I don't get the can't set times errors. So I try running the patcher as root, hoping it won't have any problems settings time, but as root wine won't run the patcher. The only output I get is:
"exename: shock2.exe
exename: shock2.exe
Wine exited with a successful status"
And so, I have no idea where to go from here. Any ideas?
If i follow you correctly: WINE won't play the game off of the disk so you're trying to NO-CD crack it. You have to patch the game to 2.3 but the patcher failed. So you try to use a different no-cd crack (what happened with the first one) which is for version 1.5. If you need to have version 2.3 to play i think you should forget about the old crack, no? We should prolly just forget about all the cracks until you can get the game up to the correct version.

I managed to get the game running, but unfortunatly I had to resort to using another (win xp) machine to patch/crack the game. But, it works now. Thanks for the help though, I really do appreciate it.
