Why does RH freeze when I run the games it came with?

The first thing I tried when I installed RH 7.2 were the games that came with it. I have a P4 with 128MB RAM and GEFORCE 256 /w 32MB and I figured games should fly on this...well the exact opposite...The menus were really choppy, and when I actually started the games, at first it would show an image every couple seconds until it eventually stopped completely, freezing linux!!!

Of course, being new to linux I was like, "Isn't linux supposed to be fairly stable? At least in Windows I can play the games."

Well, I kept on going with everything else, things seem to be running at a reasonable speed in linux. I use both KDE and GNOME, preferably KDE at the moment, but hoping to get past this whole GUI dependent phase ASAP...anyways, any suggestions?
