Games freeze my system

Im not really a gamer but I went to try out Tux and Chromium on Redhat 8 and they both made my box slow to a crawl. The video/sound was all choppy, the games were unplayable. If I was on Windows I would attribute this to a crappy driver or conflict. Im really new to Linux so I dont really have a clue here. I know with Mandrake 8.2 Tux really froze also. Could it be a driver or configuration prob?

My box:

AMD Duron 700
256 MB Ram
Asus mobo with VIA kt133 chip
Soundblaster PCI 512 soundcard
3dfx Voodoo 3 AGP card 16mb
Realtek network card

It's a video card driver/configuration problem. Search the forums
for how to set up openGL.
