Weird boot problem.

I have 2 HD's i installed MDK 9.1 on the 2nd a week ago anyway i had a problem with the system that i could not fix so i wen tinto windows and formated the drive with partition magic.
I went to install red hat but i canceld the install after selecting mouse and so on *cd said there was errors when it checked it* anyway i put the mkd cd in and rebooted.
I reinstalled mdk and reinstalled lilo though it was still installed, it made a 2nd windows dir to boot so i removed it and after the install as i came to boot and select a os from the loader it just got a black screen and it said L 99 99 99 99 99 99 and kept doing 99 on and on. I fixed the problem ater a while by putting my XP CD in and deleting the partition and selecting to install on the HD windows was allready on then it asked for the dir to copy files i removed the test *C:\blahblah then hit F3 to quit then with no chanes that i noticed the system booted into windows fine.
Any idea why i would get that L 99 99 99 99 99 spam ?

It's a mis-configured lilo.

A load of 99 99 99 99 99 99 9 etc means that the bootloader cannot find the bootrecord ie it was not where the configuration file said it was.
