Web development on FC3

On my winxp machine i do a lot of web development using apache, php, mysql, etc. I want to do the same thing on my new Fedora core 3. I saw the option to install a server with php, mysql, etc. on the installation menu, but i was wondering whether that will suit my purposes or whether i sohuld instlal apache and everything else separetly. Also, can i change the root folder and localhost name and such the same way that i did in windows? If not, what do I have to do differently? Thanks for the input.

its easiest to install it on install, cause then everything will work together, so i highly recommend this

and setting up the linux machine should be the same type of settings as the windows one

changing the root folder im a little confused about, what do u mean by this: but hostname can be
changed np

if you mean changing the webserver root, yea, just change it in the conf file, which looks almost the same as the windows apache version

Hello!

1. Webdevelopment
-You can install Apache, MySQL and PHP with the distribution or later from "Add/Remove Application".
-You can download and install from RPMs [you find the RPMs on the Fedora cd's too].
-An easier way is to download and install a package that contains everything XAMPP [Apache, MySQL, PHP and Perl].
-Also you can compile and install your Apache webserver with PHP support and the MySQL server.
http://httpd.apache.org/download.cgi
http://www.php.net/get/php-5.0.3.tar.bz2/from/a/mirror
http://dev.mysql.com/get/Downloads/M...r.gz/from/pick
After unpacking the arhives, you'll find there the needed documentation too. On Linuxquestions you'll find many threads about this.

2. Change hostname
You have to change in /etc/sysconfig/networl the name after "HOSTNAME=". Then you write in /etc/hosts once the complete name and once without the domainsuffix [the part before the first dot].

Code:
[boby@space boby]$ hostname
space
Code:
[boby@space boby]$ cat /etc/sysconfig/network
NETWORKING=yes
HOSTNAME=space
Code:
[boby@space boby]$ cat /etc/hosts
# Do not remove the following line, or various programs
# that require network functionality will fail.
127.0.0.1       localhost.localdomain   localhost
213.164.252.212          space.localdomain      space
Good luck!
Boby
