Question Vmware issue, Test audio but no other sounds

I've running fedora and ubuntu in VMware Workstation 6.5.0. In these 2 machines I can't seem to get any audio other then the system beeps and test audio. When I go into system-->Preferences-->Hardware-->Sound, I select the Ensoniq AudioPCI (ALSA) driver and click test and I get a tone that plays through the speakers but the system sounds and any other audio I play doesn't come out. Anyone have any ideas or know of any posts that I missed in my search? Thanks.

Ok, so I installed Slakware 12.2 in a VMWare session and the audio seems to be working fine in that machine.
