Recorded audio sounds horrible, but the untouched line-in sounds ok?

I am using an Asus Pundit, RedHat 9, OSS drivers, Leadtek TV2000XP, and MythTV 0.11. Leadtek's audio out connected to pundit's line-in.
If I unmute the line-in the audio sounds perfectly fine. However, audio when I watch live TV in mythtv sounds like it has gone through a tunnel or something. I am not sure what the problem is. I have tried all the sound encoding options in myth, I just have it as uncompressed now. I don't think it is a problem in mythtv, but with OSS or something? Not sure how to fix this. Anyone know how?
