VLC not lunching

I have installed vlc last night, from the repository. everything went fine but upon lunching it jumps around for a bit and just vanished with out a trace..and this seem to be a very common prob lem that i've experienced with server suse 10.2 installations..

how can i go about in solving this issue?
what causes such symptoms in general?

thanks

What happens when you run it from the command-line? Often you will get more (and more useful) output running things from a console, where any failure text will be outputted.
