Video, Audio, and DVD Apps

Being new to Linux, would like to know what apps are available for video capturing/editing, audio editing, and DVD authoring? Thanks.

Take a look at "grip" for ripping CD's and encoding mp3 files. Try "mplayer" and "mencoder" for video encoding/playback. Also look up "transcode" for the same. For dvd backup, try looking up "vobcopy" and "dvdbackup".

For video editing look at avidemux (relatively light) or cinelerra (resource intensive). Kino is good for importing from dv video cameras and then editing the video. For dvd authoring look at dvdstyler or qdvdauthor.
