username@something:~> in the terminal

What does the "something" in username@something:~> before the input in the terminal (konsole) mean? Can I change it?
Before, when my computer was connected to a private network, it said username@linux:~>, but now it says username@blah338:~>. I'm guessing it has something to do with the name that the dhcp server assinged me, but I'd like an explanation that is a bit more in depth (but not too in depth :P)

basically, as far as I know, it's your hostname, the name of the machine you're working on and you can change it...I don't remember if there are several files, but at least /etc/hosts might give some clue..read manpages and so on, or crawl google for changing your hostname.
