try to put the usb then restart your pc allow linux to detect during startup.
AUTOMATIC MOUNTING OF USB
1. goto /mnt
2. mkdir usb
3. you try to vi /etc/fstab
4. "mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/usb vfat,user,noauto 0 0"
5 after you edit press ESC :wq to save your new settings
try this if it is ok
