usb drive problems

I recently purchased a new asus laptop with 4 gig memory and 500 HD and windows 8. I downloaded linux mint 14 and burned it to a DVD. When running it from the DVD drive, it works perfectly. So, I decided to install it on a usb drive. When I try to run it, the start screen comes on with several options: "start linux mint", etc, etc. When I click on any of these options, the screen goes blank, and stays blank until I press: " ctl,alt, delete". Any ideas ??? Thanks for your help !!!

Hi,

How are you installing mint to the usb drive? Are you using a program such as unetbootin or LinuxLiveUSB?

I used : "Universal USB Installer"...........

Personally, I would
a) start the CD and install it on the USB like described here http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=113309
or
b) use unetbootin
If I remember I never installed Mint on an usb with unetbootin but I had severll success with nuetbootin with Lubuntu, Zorin etc. So, my trust in unetbootin is quite high
