unable to update yum


I am unable to update yum ; the feedback I get when I try to update yum is as follows:-

Loaded plugins: fastestmirror, fedorakmod, kernel-module, refresh-packagekit,
: refresh-updatesd
Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile
Error: Cannot find a valid baseurl for repo: updates
[root@localhost@localdomain imman]#

Please help out

Are you definatly connected to the net ok and dns is working properly

yes,

I am properly connected to the net and my DNS is ok.The GUI package manager for install / remove packages is also similarly affected.
