Thanks in advance for your help. I've used Linux briefly before but haven't really gotten my feet wet yet.

Here's the deal: I've got a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop that was given up for dead before I commandeered it from the owner and put openSUSE 10.2 on it. This was two days ago or so, so you can tell that it's a pretty fresh install of Linux on the machine. I did a little research and attempted to turn off the trackpad tap-to-click functionality because it was getting annoying and registering mouse clicks when I didn't want it to. The way I did so was to set MaxTapTime to 0 in /usr/share/sax/profile/alps . But then I also somewhat inadvisably set the mouse driver from alps to synaptics while using the yast2 GUI and logged in as root. Now, the tap-to-click functionality is disabled (great!), but the mouse pointer is moving unbearably slowly (bad), and I can't seem to speed it back up to normal. I also can't go back to the alps mouse driver because the Mouse control panel won't open in yast2. The "loading" progress bar shows up and completes, and then disappears, and nothing happens. I also can't launch it by issuing /sbin/yast2 mouse at the shell prompt. The other yast2 control panels display just fine, however.

Can anyone help me get yast2 to display the mouse control panel again? Thanks very much!

I don't know about yast but can't you open /etc/X11/xorg.conf and change the protocol or driver back to the one that you need? After you do this you will need to restart x: ctrl+alt+bckspce

Alternatively you could go to a shell
and change to runlevel 3
and run sax2 from the prompt
