ultra customizing linux look

Hello,

I'm currently running GNOME.

I was wondering if it was possible to customize the complete look of linux. For starters, I wan't to make it look like Windows XP Classic Theme. EDIT: THIS IS NOT MY FINAL GOAL , just a straightforward template to start with.

Things such as making a splash screen hiding the boot up text, changing the functionality of the menu bars, stuff like that

It there any info out there on how to do this? Any input you guys can give? I haven't been able to find much.

I'm not particular about GNOME, I can switch if it makes it any easier.

Also, I was thinking of adding status bars with lots of useless dividers to every program, just for fun

Haven't tried it myself.

I'm sorry and don't take it wrong but why change to Linux and still want the windows look ?

You can look for some gnome themes here.

Luna? Yuck!

Thanks though. Actually I'm looking at doing this so I can learn how do it myself. I've got other plans, with XP as a quickie template so I don't have to worry about design while I'm learning how to modify the interface.

Well to be honest i would just play around a bit with the taskbar without going to the XP bar thingy . KDE-GNOME-Win have +/- the same desktop layout anyway.

GL with your customization <
