Question uk keyboard layout in X

Greetings,
I've recently installed slackware 8.1 - (and i love it) - one thing though, at the moment, when im in a console (Alt+F2 or whatever) - not in X that is - my keyboard layout is as i configured it at install - the uk keyboard layout.
When i load X the console still has uk layout but X uses US layout.
I've tried loadkeys and kbd_mode with no luck. The only thing i have found that works is to launch kontrol and then click peripherals->keyboard->uk layout [apply] - this then gets X working with correct layout - but my window manager is Enlightenment - and so kcontrol settings deamon (whatever its called) doesn't boot by default.

strange very strange.

any help would be vastly appreciated - as my solution (running kcontrol) is not elegant in the slightest.

cheers
mark

In my /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 there's
Option "XkbLayout" "pl"
(keyboard section)
Try to change yours.
