Ubuntu installation problem

I have a ubuntu linux 8.01 DVD with me .Due to some problem i cant install it. So i installed ubuntu 8.04 CD on my computer. But when i tried to install programs from that dvd using synaptic package manager, it said DVD isnt of correct type........But that DVD safely works as a LIVE DVD....
My question is is there any way that I should copy programs from that live DVD and use it to install it in my ubuntu 8.04....

If you try to install packages meant for Ubuntu 8.10 on a running Ubuntu 8.04 system, you'll get compatibility issues - the core packages and the dependencies are bound to have changed. Try to get online and install via Synaptic; you'll get the correct packages for your system AND the most recent packages for that purpose.

A live DVD or cd usually has no packages
( or very few ) included.
The whole OS is one big compressed file.

Just open it in a file manager and have a look.

Every Ubuntu live CD that I've played with has had an option to install from the running Live CD. Are you saying that such an option no longer exists or that it doesn't work for you (or even something else)?

System >> Administration >> Software Sources

Change in there to install from DVD or CD, use the ver that you have installed.

To install ofline this may help.
