ubuntu 10.10 splash screen not there.

Hello, the problem is simple. On Karmic, I had this wonderful splash screen, and it was fully customized. But once i reinstalled at lucid (my computer's HDD fried and it was under warranty), I didnt even get the standard ubuntu splash. If Someone could help me to get the splash screen back, i can do the rest. Thanks in advance for all of your help!

Do you just get a blinking cursor in the upper left corner until GDM loads?

That always happened to me. Go to System>Prefrences>Splash Screen and play around there, it might help. When I upgraded to maverick it stopped.

Try this fix. I posted this in response to NVIDIA problems but it also happened to me with a radeon card.

yes, but i have decided to go astray from ubuntu... lol. I'm gonna give Mint a try, as everyone always talks it up and it is an ubuntu derivative, it should work out fine. Thanks anyways for all your help!
