I just started using ubuntu this week i installed the live cd ubuntu from the linux bible 09' edition, it installed easy. Then a update came on saying a newer version of ubuntu is out, so i downloaded it, that went good too. then I started anding some stuff, then I wanted to go on youtube but the video was choppy and the sound wasn't syncing with the video, so I install somethings in sound and video, java (all of it?) mp3 web player, but it still didn't work so I gave up, It work well in totem(sp?) so I shut down the computer. And now I boot it up and I'm stuck at the start screen , it looks high contrast pic and the logo is purple, green, and black at the bottom it has this green bar at the bottom too, the top has like some kind of symbols,, idk, i tried using the live cd to fix it but it doesn't show the boot screen.

Please help i have my stuff in there i really need it. what can I do? help me.

I think somehow "xorg.conf" definition file got screwup.

It is located in "/etc/X11/xorg.conf".

The file include a note that you can "rebuilt" automatically using the following command "sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg".

About the boot splash it is located in "/boot/grub/" the file name is menu.lst.
