i just got a new dedicated server. i thought i had the linux thing down but i seem to not.

i tried to create a user logged in as root (via shell server)

useradd -g groupname -p newuser_password newusername

but i can't seem to login as 'newusername'

is there more parameters i should put in? (this is on centos 4.x)

(before i had webmin installed on my other server and used its thing to create users, i decided this time to see if i can do it without webmin or any CPs to get more skilled)

edit: but i CAN login as root, and do su newusername and that works, but thats still not what i want obviosuly)

sounds like the password is just wrong or something, if you can su to it the user itself must be fine. try just resettign it as root with the passwd command.
