Thunderbird only launch as root

Hello,

I have installed thinderbird O.7.1 on my laptop running with Mandrake 10. It run perfectly when i'm root. But when i log as a simple user and try to launch it as i do with the root account (/opt/thunderbird/thunderbird), i have the following message repeating
....
*** loading the extensions datasource
*** loading the extensions datasource
*** loading the extensions datasource
....
and if i don't interrupt it, i will have in the end

GConf Error: Failed to create pipe for communicating with spawned gconf daemon: Too many open files.

i first think at files permissions problem, but i don't see the problem
ls -al /opt/
drwxr-xr-x 8 777 root 4096 jui 23 21:55 thunderbird/

I have no idea about it ? any help will be welcome.

thanks
chug

I think you sould try installing thunderbird as the user you want to use it with ..

being the user do a ./configure and then a make

when you have done this do a
su -
password: (rootpassword)
make install (in the dir where you did the configure and make)

this sould fix the problem but im not totaly sure..

Thunderbird is not hard to compile from the source but there's more to it than ./configure and make. To me, this problem looks to be about write permissions in your home directory because the error is with Gconf

Well installing and configuring the source as the user will deal with the permission problems.. .

i just re-install it with the user that will use thunderbird... and it works.

Thanks answering to both of you, and thanks for the good idea.
