System interrupts stop while hard disk works!

Hello.
I've compiled and installed a new kernel. While configurating the kernel, i choose only hardware, that i have on my pc.
Everything works fine, but i have one problem: When my hard disk start to load something everything stops, as it would stop when you make cli ... sti to block interrupts.
I've tried different variations on confiruration with kernels v. 2.4.24 and 2.4.25, and nothing helped. I never heard anyone had problem like that.

Could someone please tell me, what i have forgotten in the kernel configuration?
