system does not boot and an L appears on screen.

hi there.

there was a power failure and since then my pc won't boot but instead a letter "L" appears on screen and then stalls.

I guess it has to do with the LILO boot loader but can't figure out how to resolve this. Any advice?

I use slackware btw.

Go to your BIOS configuration for the hard disks. The power glitch may have caused it to become misconfigured. Especially common is that the addressing mode may be wrong. Try setting to LBA/Linear addressing mode. The drive may be faulty. Do you have a live CD to boot from? This may provide some help.
