There seems to be a bug there. I have one installation that downloaded the patches and never see it again.
However on another PC the network didn't kick in and so no download. I therefore got the same error message. To overcome I click the system and log in terminal mode. Once log in you can get the GUI by
Code:
startx
It is irritating that you have to do it for every log in but the system works fine. I haven't got time to get rid of it yet.
Don't know yet but the first line of post #16 confirms that the bug didn't surface again after I did the patches with the Internet. May be you should try it too.
I tried the startx and it works like a charm. Thanks! However, YOU can't seem to find the automatic update stuff, and I don't know what packages I need to make that bug go away. I have internet access, but YOU can't seem to find its default download server. Any ideas?
I tried the startx tip, and it worked like a charm. Thanks! However, once I log in and try to get my update patches from YOU, it tells me that it can't find the server. I do have internet access, but YOU can't seem to connect to a server. What packages do I need to get rid of the startx login bug? I'm running 10.0.42 currently.
I think one of the bottom right icons is to log in with a German web site for updating the patches. If you can get to the Internet the patch link will work automatically. The site will interrogate your Suse and load the appropraite patches. Just a couple of clicks to have the whole thing done in less than an hour in my case.
Novell tech support just informed me that there is no fix for my main issue posted above.
Therefore, I'm stuck using an alpha release until something better comes along. Currently, I have 3 major problems:
1. OpenOffice crashes every time I try to open an OpenOffice document I copied over from my other PC
2. None of my Mp3 files play; amarok just cycles through them really quickly and does nothing; xmms does nothing at all.
3. SuseWatcher cannot find the download server so that I can get updates.
