startup applications in mint not working

hello, i'm trying to get guake terminal to start on my linux mint chromebook, and i just can't get it to cooperate.

I have used the "startup applications" menu, and tried using a custom command and choose and app.

this was not working, so i tried creating a symbolic link from guake.desktop in the usr/share/applications, over to etc/xdg/autostart, which was suggested in an ubuntu forum.

this is still not working....am i missing something?

Maybe a screenshot of what you placed in 'startup applications' might help?

Also, once the above was done, did you check (maybe using pgrep) if guake was actually running even if you couldn't bring it up?

Also, confirm you do not have F12 assigned to some other operation (it is default key from memory)

LM what version?

Code:
inxi -S
output here please.
a users startup programs are in ~/.config/autostart
which is where startup applications puts your entries.

If it doesn't work from there, you are indeed missing something.

Post the command or script you are using in startup applications

i am using a chromebook, so my guake is remapped to shift+z, only way i can launch is from menu or another terminal. i will try to get a screen grab in a bit

the output of that command is

ant@linuxchrome ~ $ inxi -S
System: Host: linuxchrome Kernel: 3.19.0-32-generic x86_64 (64 bit) Desktop: Cinnamon 2.8.6
Distro: Linux Mint 17.3 Rosa

if i go into that directory, the only thing in there is dropbox.desktop. i tried just copying it from xdg/autostart and that didn't work

im not sure if im explaining startup applications correctly. its just a gui window that you can choose programs, no scripts or anything, dropbox and guake are the only added ones. i think the dropbox install added itself

searching i found a suggestion to uncheck the "enable popup notifications on start up" option. Did that and after a restart, its starting up. Thanks for the replies.

Ah!
It seems, my user interface does not have that option, but the corresponding entry in the relevant ~/.config/autostart/a.desktop file is:
Code:
NoDisplay=true
