I saw the word Spotify was part of the updates I just did. Searched and found the program.
Right clicked and chose uninstall. Got message "This menu item is not associated to any package.Do you want to remove it from the menu anyway?"
Would that mean most of it has been removed?
Why is it still listed as an active app?

I recall adding it and I thought I had removed it already.
What command do I use in terminal to find any remaining components of Spotify ?
Once located, what command do I use to remove all of them?

I would say yes.

Take a look at locate and whereis. See their respective man pages for details. I prefer them to find for simple searches, but that's just me.

If you are using Mint, as you sidebar seems to indicate, you might also try opening Synaptic and checking whether it lists Spotify as an installed program.

Your first suggestion was over my head.... I did find it listed in Synaptic. spotify-client. The latest version.
Right clicked and an option is to "mark for complete removal". Do I choose that ?
Will it then remove it all?

Or do I just leave it alone?

"Complete removal" in Debian-based distros means that the system configuration files go too. Otherwise they are preserved in case you have modified them and want to reinstall the package later.

In any case your personal configuration files stay until you remove them manually.

Oh, I just received an update for Spotify 1:1.2.11.916.geb595a67
Guess I can download that, then see if Spotify shows up to where there is an uninstall option.

When I used to use Debian, I would mark things for deletion in one update and then completely remove them in the next one. Just belt and braces.

Even if you do completely remove something, that doesn't stop you from installing it a second time at a later date.
