Sound Problems no more sound

Haveing a problem with my sound on slackware on min it was there and working the next not working at all. programs install before sound went were mplayer, kmplayer and apache all installed from source, mplayer and kmplayer i uninstalled using "make uninstall" but apache didnt work searched for files for that one and deleted them, tryed different thing to the sound mixer and system sound to see if anything i tryed would work, but did not.
So throught if waas something i did on the system, I tryed a live cd (slax) and still no sound so i have no idea why the sound has just stoped

In slack i tryed alsaconf configured all that, that didnt work either.. any ideas would be great.

Installing Apache would not break your sound system. Sometimes if Gaim, Mplayer or xine are running nothing else can use the sound card. Do "top" to see if any of these are running. If they are, kill them and try again.

Slack seems to reset alsamixer to off at zero volume when it reboots, so even though you checked alsaconf you should look at alsamixer. Just type "alsamixer" in a shell. Use the sideways arrow keys to select each slider. When you select a slider check the top left corner of the window to see if it is "off" or "on". The "m" key will toggle between on and off.

Do you get the sound when KDE starts up?

Good luck.
