sound problem

hello i tried to install ubuntu 7.04 fiesty fawn,which i did successfully and before that i tried to format my laptop as i had xp first on which before installing there were sounds drivers already installed,and i could hear sounds perfectly well,now even after trying to open the gstreamer and the alsamixer nothin is new,so plz can anyone try to solve this problem and i am very very new to linux so i literallly dont know anything here....help!

You will need to be much more specific about several things:

1. What brand of laptop do you have?

2. What is the sound chipset? Go to System>Preferences>Sound What does the block that says "Device" say?

3. Have you made sure that the speakers are not "muted" in alsamixer?

4. Open a terminal and type:

sudo lspci

Look for entries that relate to sound to post back what it says.
